(Clip) Long holiday cross-border tourism buzzing all along the Thai-Lao border

Nong Khai — The Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge checkpoint in Nong Khai is packed with people waiting to cross in and out of the country during the long holiday period. The main destination is Vientiane, and officials are strictly on guard against the smuggling of illegal goods, advising travellers to comply with regulations for a safe trip.

Today (28 Jul.), a correspondent reported a bustling scene at the First Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge border checkpoint in Mueang Nong Khai District, packed with tourists and members of the public wishing to travel out of Thailand. The primary destination is sightseeing in the capital Vientiane, Lao PDR.

On the inbound side, a considerable number of foreign tourists were also entering Thailand, making for a lively atmosphere overall, with travel taking place both by public bus and by privately owned vehicles being driven out of the country.

Border checkpoint officials — from both the immigration and Nong Khai Customs units — conducted strict checks on both people and vehicles, urging everyone to comply with regulations, to refrain from importing or exporting prohibited or illegal goods of any kind, to abide by the laws of the neighbouring country and respect its rules, and not to cause any disturbances or incidents that would damage Thailand's image. Officials also offered guidance on how to be a quality and responsible tourist.

It is anticipated that this extended holiday period of several days will stimulate the tourism sector in the border provinces, with large amounts of money circulating — including in Nong Khai, Loei, and Bueng Kan provinces alike.
