Chiang Mai — Chiang Mai Zoo, in collaboration with the Chiang Mai Provincial Office of Natural Resources and Environment, organized a tree-planting activity to honor His Majesty the King on the occasion of his birthday on 28 July 2026. The provincial governor led representatives from all sectors in planting 740 seedlings — comprising both flowering trees and perennial trees — to expand green areas and restore natural resources.
Today (24 Jul 2026), Chiang Mai Zoo, together with the Chiang Mai Provincial Office of Natural Resources and Environment, organized the activity "Tree Planting for Conservation, Natural Resource Restoration, and Green Area Expansion to Honor His Majesty the King on the Occasion of His Birthday, 28 July 2026" at the former Nakhon Ping Bird Garden area within Chiang Mai Zoo.
Ratthapon Naradit, Governor of Chiang Mai Province, presided over the opening ceremony and led heads of government agencies, executives from public and private sector organizations, youth, and members of the public — more than 400 people in total — in planting 740 seedlings comprising a variety of flowering trees and perennial trees, including Rueang Phueng, Lueang Chiang Rai, Thong Urai, Chomphoo Phu Phing, Sala, Inthanin, Pradu, Phikun, and Mahogany. Participants also toured the former Nakhon Ping Bird Garden area, which is currently being restored and developed into a green space and nature conservation learning center for Chiang Mai Zoo.
Wuttichai Muangman, Director of Chiang Mai Zoo, stated that the zoo is delighted to have integrated its efforts with the Chiang Mai Provincial Office of Natural Resources and Environment in organizing this activity, in order to express loyalty and gratitude for the royal grace of His Majesty the King on the occasion of his birthday on 28 July 2026, while also promoting the conservation and restoration of natural resources, expanding green areas, and instilling environmental conservation awareness among all sectors.
Regarding the former Nakhon Ping Bird Garden area, which served as the venue for this activity, it is a naturally rich forested area on the foothills of Doi Suthep and forms part of an important green zone within Chiang Mai Zoo. Participants jointly planted 740 seedlings comprising a variety of flowering trees and perennial trees, in order to restore the landscape, increase shade and greenery, and enhance biodiversity within the area.
Additionally, the Director of Chiang Mai Zoo stated that this activity reflects the cooperation of all sectors in conserving and restoring natural resources, in alignment with the royal initiative on environmental conservation, and represents a collective effort to expand green areas so that abundant natural resources may be passed on as a lasting heritage for Chiang Mai Province and the nation.
