"Anutin" prepares to welcome "Min Aung Hlaing" on visit to Thailand on 6-7 Aug., to discuss all cross-border issues, with a "Four Eyes" talk also planned, noting that good relations between neighbouring countries must be mutually supportive.
Today (31 Jul.), at 3:30 p.m. at Government House, Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, gave an interview regarding Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, President of Myanmar, who is set to visit Thailand during 6-7 August and is scheduled to hold talks with the Prime Minister. He said there will be formal discussions, as the visitor is an official state guest. On 6 August, there will be bilateral talks and a private "Four Eyes" one-on-one conversation with Min Aung Hlaing as well.
The Prime Minister continued, saying that in addition to that, there is a scheduled meeting with the Thai-Myanmar Business Council, comprising both private sector and business representatives, to discuss the economic framework, because the two sides must move forward together — it is not the government moving alone; the private sector must be brought in to build relations. Discussions will also cover the issue of toxic contamination in cross-border rivers, the haze problem, ethnic minority issues, narcotics, and scam operations. "We will talk about every single issue," he said.
When asked whether the toxic contamination issue could translate into an economic impact on tourist areas, the Prime Minister said that it would need to be discussed — that as neighbours, they must maintain good relations and support and help one another. If any one country suffers hardship as a result of the actions or consequences from another country, they must work together to resolve it. He said he believes Myanmar will also have issues it wishes to raise and ask Thailand to help address, so they must sit down and discuss them together, because the fundamental relationship is already good. "We want to be friends with every country, especially neighbouring countries," he said.
