The Chinese Chargé d'Affaires has declared Prime Minister Anutin's visit to China a great success, emphasising that "Music Diplomacy" helped strengthen Thai–Chinese friendship, while pledging to push forward the outcomes of the visit into tangible benefits for the people of both countries.
Today (25 July 2026), Ms. Lalida Phoertwiwattana, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that she had conducted a telephone interview with Mr. Wu Zhiwu, Chargé d'Affaires of the People's Republic of China to Thailand, regarding the results of Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's official visit to the People's Republic of China from 16–20 July 2026. The interview also covered the case in which the Prime Minister sang the song "Tian Mi Mi (甜蜜蜜)" — meaning "sweetly" or "sweet and honeyed" — originally performed by Teresa Teng, at a luncheon hosted by Chinese Premier Li Qiang, which attracted considerable attention from the media and the public of both countries.
Mr. Wu Zhiwu said that Thai–Chinese relations at present are close and solid at every level — from the royal level and the governmental level to the people-to-people level. He noted that the official state visit to the People's Republic of China by His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen last year was a magnificent success and was warmly praised by the Chinese people. He also noted that Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn is deeply respected and beloved by the Chinese people and has continuously played an important role in promoting cooperation between the two countries.
The Chinese Chargé d'Affaires said that Prime Minister Anutin's visit to China on this occasion was an outstanding success. The Prime Minister held meetings with President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang, and Mr. Zhao Leji, Chairman of the National People's Congress of China. He also travelled to Shanghai and Chengdu, where he met with a number of leading Chinese business operators who expressed confidence and readiness to expand economic, trade, and investment cooperation with Thailand. Both sides also signed 15 agreements and issued a joint statement, reflecting a consensus to elevate Thai–Chinese cooperation going forward.
Mr. Wu Zhiwu said that, as President Xi Jinping told Prime Minister Anutin, "The thousand-year-long friendship between China and Thailand grows stronger with the passage of time. Both sides treat each other with sincerity and mutual trust, forging a relationship of 'China and Thailand as brothers.' China attaches great importance to developing relations with Thailand within the framework of neighbourhood diplomacy, and has always been Thailand's trustworthy and reliable strategic cooperative partner." Mr. Wu Zhiwu added that the important mission going forward is to work together to translate the consensus reached by the leaders of both countries into concrete results, so that the peoples of both countries benefit from the cooperation and truly feel the sweetness — like "Tian Mi Mi."
When asked about the role of music and cultural exchange in strengthening relations between the two countries, Mr. Wu Zhiwu said that the song "Tian Mi Mi" is widely popular in China, Thailand, and among overseas Chinese communities. Singing the song on an occasion when friends meet helped create an atmosphere of friendship, warmth, and goodwill between the two sides. "I call this 'Music Diplomacy,' which can win people's hearts. Every one of us applauded and admired the Prime Minister with one voice," Mr. Wu Zhiwu said.
Ms. Lalida said that the Chinese Chargé d'Affaires's remarks reflect that the Prime Minister's visit to China and the delegation's trip were well received — across the dimensions of leader-level relations, economic, trade and investment cooperation, and people-to-people ties. The government will move swiftly to drive the outcomes of this visit toward concrete results, in order to create benefits that the Thai and Chinese peoples can truly feel, while continuing to nurture Thai–Chinese relations in a new decade under the principle of "China and Thailand are not strangers — we are brothers."
