MGR Online — The Crime Suppression Division has tracked down and arrested a woman from Trang who plotted with her lover to lure her husband and slash his throat nearly to death, out of resentment at being caught in an affair, before spending 19 years on the run — living and sleeping inside a truck.
Today (23 Jul.), Pol. Maj. Gen. Pattanasak Bupphasuwan, Commander of the Crime Suppression Division (CSD), ordered Pol. Col. Pongpanot Chukaew, Deputy CSD Commander, Pol. Col. Anusorn Thongsai, Acting Superintendent of CSD Sub-Division 6, and Pol. Lt. Col. Jomphruet Kaewrueang, Inspector of CSD Sub-Division 6, to lead officers in arresting Mrs. Praphaiphat (surname withheld), 50 years old, under Trang Provincial Court arrest warrant No. 648/2007, dated 13 September 2007, on the charge of "jointly attempting to murder another person." She was apprehended in front of a company in the Rong Mueang area, Pathum Wan District, Bangkok.
In 2007, the victim, Mr. Kaset, discovered that his wife — the suspect, Mrs. Praphaiphat — had been secretly having an affair with a man named Jaroon. He confronted her, leading to a heated argument. Subsequently, the two of them telephoned Mr. Kaset and invited him out for rice porridge to discuss the matter. However, on the way, another argument broke out, after which Jaroon kicked the victim's motorcycle, causing it to fall. He then used a knife to stab and slash the victim's throat, while Mrs. Praphaiphat helped pin the victim's body down. After the incident, Jaroon believed the victim had died, and the two fled together.
Officers from Nong Trut Police Station in Trang Province arrived to investigate and found that the victim still had vital signs. He was immediately taken to hospital and survived. He was then able to give testimony that became key evidence in support of the court's issuance of arrest warrants for both suspects. Jaroon was arrested not long afterward; the court sentenced him to imprisonment and he has since completed his sentence. Mrs. Praphaiphat, meanwhile, continued to evade arrest for more than 19 years, relocating her place of residence and employment across multiple provinces throughout the country, until officers learned that she was currently working at a transport company in the Rong Mueang area of Pathum Wan District and was living inside a ten-wheel truck belonging to the company, driven by her current husband. Officers then moved in to arrest her as described.
Upon interrogation, the suspect denied the charges, claiming she had merely been present at the scene and had been riding in the same vehicle as the victim, and had not taken part in the attack in any way. She was subsequently handed over to investigators at Nong Trut Police Station, Trang Province, for further legal proceedings.
