Suri, daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, has officially filed to drop her father's surname

Following the children of the "Jolie–Pitt" household filing one after another to have the surname "Pitt" of famous actor Brad Pitt removed, the latest news concerns Suri, the only daughter of renowned actors Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, who has likewise filed to drop her father's surname.

Suri Cruise, now a 20-year-old student at Carnegie Mellon University, has officially filed a request to change her surname from "Cruise" to "Noelle," confirmed by voter registration records obtained by PEOPLE magazine.

According to reports, when she was a first-year student in October 2024, she registered to vote at the university under the name Suri Noelle — "Noelle" being Katie Holmes's middle name.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have one daughter together, Suri, who was born in April 2006, before the couple held their wedding ceremony in November 2006 and divorced in 2012.

Reports indicate that before Suri registered to vote as Suri Noelle, she had already used that name when she graduated from high school in June 2024 — the same weekend that Tom Cruise was attending Taylor Swift's Eras Tour concert in London.

In December 2024, Katie Holmes spoke out about Suri's relationship with the 62-year-old Tom Cruise, denying reports that her daughter had received an inheritance from her father's trust fund.

At the time, Katie Holmes, who is currently 47 years old, posted a message on Instagram to dispute a report by the Daily Mail stating that Suri had been able to access her own trust fund upon turning 18, writing "Not true at all." Above a screenshot of the article, Katie Holmes also wrote: "Daily Mail, you can stop making things up."

"Enough," she added in the caption.

Although Suri has not made many public appearances, she was photographed visiting her mother on the set of the film Happy Hours in New York City in August 2025. The photos showed the mother and daughter strolling together on a city street, before Katie Holmes returned to filming alongside Joshua Jackson, her co-star from the series Dawson's Creek.
