The 48th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, held in Busan, Republic of Korea, has passed a resolution approving the inscription of the "Jingdezhen Handcrafted Porcelain Industry Heritage" as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site, bringing China's total number of World Heritage Sites to 61.
The heritage site is located in the northeastern part of Jiangxi Province and comprises five core zones: the urban porcelain production center, the Hutian ancient kiln site, the Gaoling kaolin mine site, the Changling ceramic stone mine site, and the Jiaotан firewood production area. It encompasses 15 heritage component groups — including the Imperial Kiln (Yuyao) ruins and a network of water and land transportation routes — with a total of 45 significant locations.
The "Jingdezhen Handcrafted Porcelain Industry Heritage" represents Jingdezhen's handcrafted ceramics industrial system from the 10th to the 19th century CE, reflecting the evolution of technology, ceramic artistry, and industrial innovation. It also stands as a testament to the profound influence that China's handcrafted porcelain industry has had on the development of the ceramics industry and civilizational exchange around the world.
